From Bad to Better

When Jayme bought her house it was heated by a 50 year old wall furnace.  (Not going to work for my baby!)  Since she had such a small house and a smaller budget, she decided to go with radiant heat.  This heater does a fantastic job heating her entire house...It is also extremely cost effective.  We wanted to make it look like less of an eyesore...This is what we came up with......

Before
After--She has since added a cute scrolly fireplace screen.  We plan to add a small hearth.

We used dark stain on boards, painted them white, and then sanded.  Todd then attached them to the wall.  We wanted it to look a little like lathe.  He trimmed the edges and attached the heater. Simple as that!

Living and Dining Redo

BEFORE

I will definitely show the before of this cute cabinet....quite a transformation

Can't wait to decorate the built-in...

We plan on adding a fireplace screen......
In this area we ripped up 30 year old carpet, hand sanded and scraped the wood floors, stained and sealed them.  We also painted, stained the wood work, painted built-in, pulled out original wall heater, put beadboard slats on that wall and hung a radiant heater.   I forgot to mention that all furniture excluding recliner and rattan chair were in this house.... We cleaned and painted all the pieces...A great deal for a 23 year-old, single school teacher!!!  I believe her budget in this room was $300... including window treatments ....Mostly just alot of physical labor...  We are so proud and happy for her...she has such a cute little house!

Bathroom Update

This is how she started out.  PLASTIC tile...falling off the walls, pipe running from bath faucet to hold shower head...Flooring curling in every corner.
We removed tile...put up beadboard.  Had some plumbing work done...under the house...not our specialty.  We also plumbed the shower, put in a surround....new toilet...and flooring...Jayme painted a fun red...looks a little orange in pictures but is really more of a berry red.

She does not have central heat so we put in a energy efficient radiant heater.  Not too pretty but it sure warms your buns.  We still have decorating to do, but are we are so pleased with the progress!
We did all this for around $600 including plumbing costs!!!

Jayme's Place

My daughter recently purchased her first home...A real fixer upper!  We are having a blast, albeit exhausting time fixing this little place up.  It is an ongoing project but I am sharing some of our progress.

This is the before of her sweet little kitchen.
Have you ever seen a stove quite like this one!  Unfortunately, the oven did not work, and there were several issues in this little room...so we went to work...We did this on a budget of less than $350.  A sweet friend gave her a new stove...What a friend!

Well here is where we are today.

We painted the cabinets black, sanded them and left a little of the previous green showing through...pictures don't do them justice...So cute.  Red ceramic knobs...thrifted,  scrap beadboard for backsplash,  $75 worth of black granite tile placed on countertops, trimmed the countertops with scrap wood.  We decided to use vinyl tile on floors at this time...a whopping $90 worth...and it is super cute!

Love these curtains!  I got the background fabric on a 50% clearance sale at Hancocks.  The bands were scrap fabrics.  My talented mother put this puppies together...  Too cute!

Tomorrow, I will show you the bathroom...Huge difference...once again on a tiny budget!
This is Jayme and the best dog in the world, Gizmo, after a hard day's work.
